England LX North East Tour

This is a sociable but competitive tournament in which the usual equal pitch time rule applies. The demand for places has been so great that we are sending two teams this year. The Doodle Poll is now closed as we have enough for two full squad, which have now been selected.

Hotels – the Radisson in Durham ( where the tour dinner will be on the Wednesday night) are holding their prices for the 3rd year - £109 for a double/twin and £99 for a single.
There is a Premier Inn immediately opposite the Radisson . There may be some B&B available in some of the colleges as it is out of term time. I think that Tony Walker got fixed up with this last year so he may have more details.
Tuesday – we hope to have England v Celts game again as last year, if we have enough players who can make it. The pitch is booked from 2 – 4pm. If you can liaise with me in the first instance and then I will liaise with Jeff Robinson of the Dragons. If by any chance we are over subscribed for the Tuesday I will see whether we can fix another game. Can you let me know the position?
We had a river cruise last year after the game on the Tuesday - about £7 per head for an hour starting at 6pm. Some may not want to do this again but there will be those who didn’t come last year. There is a bar on the boat and it was good fun. Can you let me know how many are interested this year and I will try and book if we have the numbers.
There will be an informal meal at the Court Inn on Tuesday for those who want it from about 7 to 7.30 pm – a good opportunity for everyone to get together. Again – numbers please . Last year we pre-ordered from the bar menu but with the numbers ,they had difficulty coping so this year I will see if they can put on a hot buffet. The beer is good!
Hockey on Wednesday and Thursday - pitch booked from 10 – 4 at Durham University which is a 10 minute walk from the Radisson or a few minutes in the car. It will be a round robin on both days, probably 15/20 mins each way games. Beer and light refreshments at the rugby club afterwards – again this is very near the hockey pitches.
Tour dinner on Wednesday night - £27 per head for 3 courses and tea/coffee. Again price has been held for the 3rd year. I will be sending out menu choices soon as we do need to pre-order.
We have entertainment after the meal which we make ourselves! The Dragons are keen to show off their singing prowess! This year we will have a mini Eisteddfod so that everyone can participate. Details to follow, howeverIian McCreath is on the ball!
