2019 Dragons Festival
3-4 August 2019
King George V Playing Fields, Ashleigh Road, Swansea, SA2 9AU
Once again, Scottish Thistles played in the annual Dragons Festival in Swansea, along with Red and Black Welsh Dragons, Blue and Red England LXand Gatfers (on behalf of the West). All Clubs were asked to enter a multi-age team in the true Festival spirit and we as Thistles always do. Matches ran from 10.00 on Saturday until 17.30 and from 9.30 on Sunday finishing at 14.30, on an all play all basis of 17½ minutes each way.
Thistles managed one win, against Black Dragons, but lost all their other matches, Tim Lorimer emerging as the top (only) scorer with three goals.
We lost 0-4 in our first game against England LX White; we then won 2-0 against the Black Dragons with two well taken goals in open play by Tim Lorimer; in our final game on the first day we lost 1-5 to Gatfers - another goal from Tim Lorimer but a strong attacking performance from our opponents.
On the second day we started with a lacklustre performance against the Red Dragons, losing 0-2 to two penalty corner strikes despite having a good share of possession. We lost our final game 0-7 against England LX Blue (who won the tournament).
The overall results hide some good play but our conversion rate for (not enough..) chances on goal was lower than our opponents and despite plenty of effort we struggled to exercise enough control over play.
