2018 World Cup Barcelona 20-29 June - Arrangements
Murray Paton has asked all Scotland players to be at the ground at least an hour and a quarter before each match. Water will be available pitch side (at least at Real Club de Polo) and ice can be bought from the refreshment area.
Full fixture list
To allow you to plan to support the other teams, including Scotland Ladies, Mike McInally has produced a full fixture list (which will be updated once the cross over ties are known).
Opening Day Events (Wednesday 20 June)
Each squad has been allocated one hour at Real Club de Polo at the following times: Scottish Thistles 09:00; Scotland GM 15:00; Scotland GGM and Scotland SGM 16:00.
The opening ceremony will take place at 19:00 at Real Club de Polo.
Out and About
The Tournament Dinner is at Real Club de Polo in the evening of Thursday 28 June.
Peter Robertson has recommended a ceviche and seafood bar owned by a friend from Arran: Lascar 74, Calle del Roser 74, Barcelona 08004. It's highly rated on Trip Advisor - worth a visit on a free evening.
Both hockey venues and the team hotel in Badalona are in Fare Zone 1A, and you can buy integrated tickets allowing travel within the fare zone from machines at tram stops, metro and rail stations (accepting coins and credit cards), from tobacco stores, news stands, lottery dealers and La Caixa branches. A T-10 ticket allows you ten separate journeys for all modes of transport with a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes for Zone 1, which will normally allow you enough time to travel between the hotel and either venue. The ticket costs €10.20.
To/from Barcelona Airport
The most economical and fastest way to travel to and from Barcelona Airport is to buy a T10 ticket at the airport (from a vending machine at the entrance to the train platform) and use it to travel by the R2 Nord RENFE train to Clot (el Clot-Arago), where you can take the L2 Metro line (direction Badalona Pompeu Fabra) to the terminus, then walk the remaining 700 metres to the hotel.
Metro line L9 also serves Barcelona airport but, paradoxically, you can't use a T10 integrated ticket to take you into Barcelona. The Metro trains are more frequent so if you choose this route, you can buy a Hola BCN! two day travel card online for €13.50. Buy this online before travelling and use it to travel from Barcelona Airport into the city, and for 48 hours afterwards. You will receive a voucher which you can use to pick up the card at any Metro station. You may want to buy two to cover your trip back to the airport, validating the second ticket 48 hours before you intend to arrive at the airport. A single Metro ticket on the L9 line to/from the airport costs €4.60 so you will need to weigh up how many trips you intend to take over the two days. The L9 line passes Zona Universitària (the stop for Real Club de Polo) where you can change to the L3 line for onward travel to the team hotel. Bear in mind that you have to change again to the L2 line at Paral-lel.
To/from Real Club de Polo
Take the L2 Metro from Badalona Pompeu Fabra (the terminus) to Paral-lel (the other terminus) and change to Metro L3 to Zona Universitària (the terminus). Walk south down Av. Dr Marañón a short distance - the entrance to the club is on the right. Meet at the hotel three hours before the match starting time except for matches starting at 10:45 (meet at 08:00). The physios will be available when they arrive with you and the changing room meeting (venue TBC) will be one hour before the match starts.
Take the L2 Metro from Badalona Pompeu Fabra (the terminus) to Clot (el Clot-Aragó), and change to the R2 train (direction Castelldefels) to Castelldefels station (the terminus). The hockey club is immediately opposite the station car park on the south side of the station, reached by an underpass from the station platform. Your can use a T10 ticket for the entire journey, as long as it does not take more than an hour and fifteen minutes. Same meeting details as for Real Club de Polo except for 09:00 matches - meet at 06:45.
Payment at Real Club de Polo
You will be issued with a wristband which can be topped up with cash or via a credit card for use in the village and snack area at Real Club de Polo (but not at Castelldefels).
